The D3S meter was a slight improvement over the D2S with improved sealing and gasketing techniques as well as eliminating one set of retarding magnets. The frame was also redesigned to make it easier to test the meter using the light-beam revolution counters coming into use at that time. Earlier D3S meters have the current coils embedded in butyl rubber but this was changed to epoxy coating on the conductors to improve the insulation characteristics. Westinghouse D3S
